So, I was thinking about the heavenly titles of the martial gods and realized that while Pei Ming, Feng Xin and Mu Qing are "Generals" - Ming Guang, Nan Yang and Xuan Zhen respectively -, Lang Qianqiu and Quan Yizhen are "Highness" - His Highness Tai Hua and His Highness Qi Ying respectively. And we know that that way of calling them doesn't come from royal status (although Lang Qianqiu is indeed Royalty) but just a way gods have to call each other and pay "respect".
(❗the previous paragraph doesn't mean lqq and qyz don't have the "General" title but they also have the other one and also it's the one other's use more to refer to them).
Then, what's the difference between "General" and "Highness"? I believe it may have something to do with the experience they have or not in actual wars.
"General" is a title that comes from the Army, and we all know that Pei Ming, Feng Xin and Mu Qing have experience not only fighting wars but also leading armies. While the other two, although are great warriors and thus can be "martial gods", haven't fought any war. Their circumstances are different.
That, of course, doesn't take any merit from them and their efforts.
So, that could be.
Or maybe it's just that while Lang Qianqiu and Quan Yizhen may not care about what word comes before their titles, the other three may care.
I don't see Pei Ming being called "His Highness" mainly because the story of how he ascended involves a rebellion he rejected because he wasn't interested in being a king.
For Feng Xin and Mu Qing, well. Maybe that's a title that makes a short circuit in their minds. After all, "His Highness" was Xie Lian (although his title had a different meaning).
I was just curious about it and I wrote this from memory so of course I probably forgot something about Lang Qianqiu and Quan Yizhen being called "General", so if anyone wants to add or correct something, please, go ahead.
I apologize in advance for any lore mistake, I just wanted to babble about this unimportant subject.

Judicial and Exorcistic Aspects of Military Rituals
Military cults involve their own special rituals, often quite brutal. #MartialArts #ChineseHistory #ancientChina #ChineseCulture #ChineseMartialArts #military #chineseMythology #traditionalMartialArts #qingDynasty #MingDynasty #GuanYu #secretSocieties
Some communities, especially rural, and ethnic minorities, consider the martial deities as their patrons. Such patronage usually includes protection from wars and epidemics, and is remunerated with regular offerings as part of local worship (sometimes merging with the worship of ancestors). However, association with community does not always mean strict localization. Martial deities are regarded…

I think it's funny that every martial god has some sort of special weapon specifically made for them except for quan yizhen. mu qing has zhanmandao, feng xin has fengshen, pei ming has mingguang, xie lian has ruoye but quan yizhen has his fists and pure unadultered autism

Wait wait wait... if Xie Lian represents the flower and Hua Cheng symbolizes butterflies... and butterflies are drawn to flowers for their nectar, aiding in pollination...
Did everyone know this!? Did everyone realize the symbolism of this, and I was just clueless this whole time!? I was just like, ohh pretty silver butterfly and never considered there was a deeper meaning

I like to imagine Xie Lian checking in on heaven every once in a while for business or something and now that heaven barely has a central government and people are more relaxed without any one scary force up their asses all the time he sometimes comes back to some pretty weird stuff. After all, every god is a nosy drama queen and everything has the potential for a competition. Imagine if one day some smaller martial gods got bored and started an arm wrestling contest and whoever won started bragging about it which caused some other martial gods to want a piece of the action. Because every martial god is overly competitive by nature, this eventually gets weirdly out of hand and now the top martial gods are having the most legendary arm wrestling tournament in history. Xie Lian walks in in the middle of it, bewildered; “Oh, no thank you, I couldn’t possibly, I should be quick, San lang is waiting for me—“ he answers but a simple “come on, your highness!” and a recap of the latest events is all it takes to convince a top martial god to give it a shot.
Across the room, Feng Xin just obliterated another round and is on a crazy hot streak. His spirits are high and he’s ready for his next victim as he looks across the table, and the opponent in his view is none other than Xie Lian.
A cold sweat runs down his back.
Of course it ends with Xie Lian vs Pei Ming, the grandest showdown they’ve seen in a great while, and Xie Lian going home that night to that San Lang of his with another weird heavenly trophy to put in the display case they had to make for all these weird prizes he keeps bringing home from work. Who knew gods really are more idle than ghost kings!

I've tried to post this like three times but Tumblr mobile app didn't like me and just threw away all my witty commentary the moment I hit "Post", so I juggled my video and photos to my computer just for that sweet desktop experience!
But like can we all acknowledge that Xie Lian ascended into a god the third time through junk collecting? He just collected scraps SO HARD that he ascended. Like did he plan that? Or was he just minding his own business one day and then a Heavenly Tribulation rained down on him and he was like "Whoops, guess this is what I'll be known for forever let's gooooo!" It sounds like him, honestly.
Tumblr media
Everyone knows Xie Lian as that one god involved with a plague and whose martial skills are second to none - to the point that he's stronger than Hua Cheng by the time his curse shackles are removed. But let's all remember the REAL reason he's a god at the start of TGCF. Our boy is just that good that he junk-collected his way into heaven, and I think we should be praying to our scrap immortals more often.
